2. Build it so it is easy to assemble and take apart
3. Push the division further into finer pieces

Ứng dụng theo lĩnh vực

• software: A single server program had to be redeployed as a whole for any change, taking the service down meanwhile. Split into small services that run on their own, only the changed part is redeployed while the rest keeps running.
• mechanical: A long conveyor built in one piece is hard to ship and repair. Made of short modules of one standard size bolted together, it installs easily and a failed section can be swapped on its own.
• electronics: A backlight that lights the whole screen at once wastes power on dark scenes and washes out blacks. Divided into zones whose brightness is set separately, it uses less power and gives higher contrast.
• medical: The dose cannot shrink, yet a large tablet is hard to swallow. The same dose split into many small pellets inside a capsule is easier to take, and the pellets can dissolve at different rates.
