• Spin coating: over-dispense, then spin off the surplus
• Cutting a board slightly oversize and trimming to fit

• mechanical: Drilling a hole to exact size and position in one pass is hard. A slightly smaller hole is drilled first and then opened to size with a precision tool.
• software: Building a feature that handles every case perfectly in one go is hard. The core is released first and the rest is filled in from real use.
• medical: The right dose for each person is hard to know at the start. Treatment begins low and is raised step by step while the response is watched.
• everyday: Cutting wallpaper exactly to the wall is hard. Strips are cut a little long, hung, and trimmed at the ceiling and floor.
