Ví dụ

• A guitar pick
• A pallet for moving heavy goods
• A catalyst that speeds up a reaction

Ứng dụng theo lĩnh vực

• mechanical: Machining a thin plate on its own makes it bend and chatter. The plate is fixed temporarily to a backing plate, machined, and then released.
• electronics: Rough surfaces leave an air gap between chip and heat sink that blocks heat. A thermally conductive paste between them fills the gap.
• medical: Some drugs are broken down by stomach acid. A coating that does not dissolve in the stomach carries the drug to the intestine, where it is released.
• software: Two systems with different data formats are hard to connect directly. A middle layer translates and passes the data between them.
