1. Replace one expensive object with several cheap ones that do not last long

• A disposable syringe
• A paper cup
• A disposable cleanroom suit

Ứng dụng theo lĩnh vực

• medical: Disinfecting a thermometer tip between patients takes time and still leaves a risk. A thin single-use cover goes over the tip for each reading.
• mechanical: Regrinding one precision tool whenever it dulls stops the machine for long. Cheap replaceable inserts are thrown away when dull and swapped in seconds.
• software: Long-running servers drift in configuration and get hard to manage. Servers are used briefly, discarded and recreated from the same image.
• everyday: A cleaning cloth needs washing after every use. A cheap disposable sheet clipped to a handle is used once and thrown away.
