1. Make objects that interact from the same material, or one with very similar properties

• Welding two parts of the same metal
• An edible ice-cream cone cup
• A bottle and cap made from the same plastic

Ứng dụng theo lĩnh vực

• mechanical: Two different metals touching in the wet make one corrode fast. Parts that touch are made of the same metal.
• medical: An artificial implant can trigger rejection. Tissue taken from elsewhere in the patient's own body is grafted instead.
• electronics: Chip and board expand by different amounts, so solder joints crack with every temperature swing. A board material that expands like the chip is used.
• software: Front end and server each writing the same validation rules in different languages end up disagreeing. One shared rule definition is used on both sides.
