Ứng dụng theo lĩnh vực
mechanical: A fan with evenly spaced blades hums loudly at one pitch at certain speeds. Spacing the blades unevenly spreads the noise over many frequencies so it is less annoying.
software: A cipher that locks and unlocks with the same key needs both sides to share a secret first, which is hard with a stranger. Making the two keys different lets the locking key be public.
medical: A needle tip ground with a short, steep bevel needs more force to enter the skin and hurts. Grinding a longer, shallower bevel, which makes the slant more asymmetric, lets it enter with less force and less pain.
everyday: Scissors with similar finger loops tire the hand. A small thumb loop and a larger, longer loop for the other fingers spread the effort more evenly.
